TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Another statewide casino issue will appear before voters on the May 4 ballot, although this one only affects the Columbus casino.
Issue 2 is an amendment to the Ohio constitution authorizing a change in the location of the casino in Columbus that was approved in Novemeber. If it passes, the casino will be built on an abandoned auto plant instead of downtown.
The issue has the endorsement of both state political parties and a diverse group of business, labor and civic organizations.
State Senator Mark Wagoner says the Toledo casino approved in November will not be affected whether Issue 2 passes or fails. A statewide vote was the only way to change the location. "We had to go back and look at 'How we do it?' We couldn't do it through legislation," he said. "The only way it could be done is put it on the ballot as a constitutional amendment to allow folks in the state to decide."
If Issue 2 fails, the Columbus casino will be built at the downtown location approved in November.
