PERRYSBURG, OH (WTOL) - Michael Skaff was the lucky winner of a contest put on by Taylor Hyundai for Perrysburg High School students who kept their grades up, had good attendance and stayed active in school activities. He won a 2010 Hyundai Elantra that he plans to take with him to college in the fall.
"My parents actually told me that my old car was unreliable to take to college, but now I have a new one to take there," said Skaff.
Teachers nominated students whose names were then put into a drawing. Of those students, ten names were chosen. It was then narrowed to three students who got keys, and Skaff's key started the vehicle.
"It was great. The students were fantastic. They were cheering and yelling, and obviously they were excited. It's fun to see people get excited about something like this."
After the assembly, Skaff was able to take his new ride for a quick spin before he went back to class.
Taylor Hyundai encouraged juniors to do their best next year because they'll be doing the same thing next spring.
Additionally, all Perrysburg School District teachers will now receive free oil changes.
