TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Toledo police officer Bob Garcia and his wife will have a much easier time caring for their two children with cerebral palsy thanks to a home makeover.
Dozens of volunteers built a 600 square foot home addition that includes main floor bedrooms and a therapy room.
The Garcias had been carrying their 10-year-old children up and down the stairs daily.
"It's a pleasure that my children are very happy," said Bob Garcia. "Especially for Robert. It takes a lot for him to get excited and want to try to talk."
Both kids say they love their new rooms. Robert Garcia's room has a baseball theme, and Mikayla's is purple with polka dots. She says she likes her new bed the most.
With help from the Professional Remodelers Organization, more than 100 volunteers from construction companies to restaurants worked to complete the addition.
