SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (WTOL) - The family of Bryan Jones is asking for $20 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against the Sandusky County Sheriff's Department.

Jones was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies in his Ballville Township home on July 11. The deputies claim Jones raised a shotgun at them before they fired.

Jones' attorney says the shooting was not justified. "When you call somebody for help, you're not calling somebody to come out and shoot," said attorney Dennis Murray Sr. "You're just calling somebody to help you process something to prevent it from getting out of hand. Not to come out and get it out of hand."

The suit also claims the county does not adequately fund the sheriff's department.

Calls to the county's attorney and the sheriff were not returned before the report aired Sunday night.
