TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - While many are celebrating the new year, several couples have more reason to celebrate. Some couples showed up at the Lucas County Courthouse just in time to get married in 2008.
Christopher and Rosemary were planning on getting married in October, but two days ago, she decided New Year's Eve was the better day.
They got their marriage license and drove in from the Lansing area, because Michigan has a three day waiting period.
"We're still going to have a big wedding next year for the family that couldn't come, but this is our wedding day and this is great," says Rosemary Elwood.
Dave and Laurie from Maumee have known each other since high school. Their bond is now sealed on New Year's Eve.
"I thought it would be the best anniversary date and it would be always fun every year to look forward to," says Laurie Schneider-Hahn.
"The whole world is going to be celebrating our anniversary, they don't even know it but they are going to be, says Dave Hahn.
And it was a family affair for the Grubaughs of Toledo. While holding their sons Gavin and Tristan, they make their union official.
"We're going to go to a New Year's Eve party and then we're actually surprising everybody. Nobody knows we've been here today, so when they see the news tonight, they'll know," says Jennifer Grubaugh.
Don't worry, they told their family before the story aired on News 11.
