June 5 news conference: Body found likely that of Nevaeh Buchanan

Posted: Updated:

Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield and the FBI held a news conference Friday, June 5, to provide an update on the search for Nevaeh Buchanan.

He said the Task Force charged in the search for the child received a call at around 3 p.m. June 4 to go to the scene where a child's body was found. They arrived on the scene to find a "burial site," so the FBI was called in.

The FBI arrived and the scene was processed, Crutchfield said, adding that the body "appears to be of the same age, size and sex of Nevaeh."

The body was transported to the Wayne County morgue in Detroit where an autopsy was performed the morning of June 5.

Crutchfield said all the evidence recovered at the scene will be submitted to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for processing.
