(WTOL) - Aaron Martin just graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon and plans to be at Owens Community College as an art major this fall.

Martin has been drawing comics for years, and all that practice paid off in a recent contest with the Toledo Mud Hens.

"I wanted to think of something dynamic, something that would capture the Mud Hens fans' attention," said Martin.

Martin's design won an online vote over two other finalists. The organization says his original concept was picked because it went so well with the other Swamp Shop designs.

"We didn't want to do something as generic; we really wanted to pick shirts that had a lot of thought and creativity," said Heidi Srock, from the Mud Hens Merchandise Department.

Martin explained the meaning of the stars in the t-shirt design.

"The five stars, I put that in because that's how great the park is. It's a 5-star park,"Martin said.

T-shirts are selling well, Srock said.

Winning the contest doesn't only benefit Martin, 20 percent of the proceeds also go to Cardinal Stritch High School.

"We just thought donating would help our community. We just reordered. We haven't sold out, but we're low and we want to make sure we have plenty in stock for our next homestand."
