WTOL Vice President and General Manager Bob ChirdonIt is now believed that reading to children, even before they enter Kindergarten, makes a huge difference in determining if that child will read as an adult.
Children who are not read to at an early age may only have 1/8th of the vocabulary needed for Kindergarten. Many never catch up and are doomed to a low-paying job and a life of barely functional illiteracy.
Read for Literacy wants you to help. Volunteers readers are being solicited to be trained by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system. These readers commit to spending 90 minutes, twice per week, reading to pre-school children.
Read for Literacy needs about 100 more volunteers. If you think you can find the time and you want to help, call 419.242.7323. I am sure that a child you have never met will be better off because you cared.
