SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (WTOL) - It was a bold crime: a bank heist in the middle of the night. This is something you just don't see very often. Just the logistical challenges of this type of crime would deter even the most experienced criminal.
"These dumb burglars," comments retired Sgt. Richard B. Murphy. "Three or four of them took on a big challenge this time. Electronic alarms, video and a very heavy safe..."
And this is much more than a local investigation.
"Not only are they facing the Sylvania Township Police Department looking for them, but the F.B.I.'s looking for them and you know what? They don't give up."
Once they're caught?
"Charges they're facing are burglary to a financial institution, criminal damage for wrecking the door, a stolen vehicle they stole, so they're facing some serious charges. And they will be caught. This is a simple one."
That stolen vehicle was a van a mom used to transport her handicapped adult son.
If you think you can help, call Sylvania Township Police or your local law enforcement agency with any information you have on this crime.
