TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Steamy temperatures mixing with hot tempers and alcohol causes a kind of street violence that peaks during the summer months. And even if you're an innocent bystander, you can so easily find yourself caught up in it.
The best advice seems so obvious, but right now, fights are happening all the time.
"If you've been drinking alcoholic beverages, don't go out of your home in the night season and get in a fight," advises retired Sgt. Richard Murphy, News 11 crime expert.
If you find yourself somehow caught in the middle of something like this, particularly if you're hurt, don't try to get yourself to the hospital.
"Call the police and stay at the scene. They'll get you help immediately. They'll get EMS on the way, possibly to safe your life."
Maybe it happens in your neighborhood, maybe outside your home. If you're a witness and you really want to put a stop to it you have to get involved and tell police what you know.
"Then you have to cooperate with the police so they can get the facts and put these two people in jail."
Maybe you're tempted to say, "not in my neighborhood!" well think again: police respond to these types of incidents every day in every kind of neighborhood across northwest Ohio. So be alert.
