SOUTH TOLEDO, OHIO (WTOL) - Two karate experts are heading to Ireland to compete in martial arts world championships in October.

Brandon Allen has been practicing martial arts for 16 years. Hannah Wagner has been training for almost seven. They've been training at the American Martial Arts Dojo, owned by Brandon's family.

Television was a major influence for both artists. "I used to watch Mortal Combat and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so my mom and dad both got me into it for my eighth birthday," says Wagner.

One of Allen's coaches was the president of Team USA. He handpicked Allen and some of his students to compete.

"I'm a little nervous, but mainly excited. I hope to become a world champion" says Wagner.

Both are working hard to get ready for their chance to shine. All that's left for Wagner and Allen is more training.
