The blue flu mess should not be permitted to tear this city apart. It was a terrible idea to call in sick.
But I also think it will be a bad idea to impose extreme disciplinary measures that could end up in protracted and expensive legal battles. We need cops on the street, not in the courtroom.
If discipline is warranted, then just be fair.
Mayor Mike Bell has demonstrated he will not be pushed around by unions or constrained by ill-conceived past practices. Good.
Now he can demonstrate that he is powerful enough to get people to come together and do what is best without having to do what is most drastic.
