WTOL Editorial: Thanks, Huntington -- and, Ben, back off!
WTOL Vice President and General Manager Bob Chirdon
Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop is wrong to expect the details of the naming rights deal for the Huntington Center to be made public. If this deal was made with the promise of non-disclosure to protect trade secrets, then that promise must be respected.
This is a policy decision that has the potential to become a real impediment to future deals. Joe Napoli was hired to represent taxpayers and to get the best deal possible. We have to trust that he did so.
The bottom line is that corporations do not have to support ball parks or arenas or any other community initiatives. And if we subject these decisions to unnecessary public scrutiny and criticism, then that corporate support will evaporate.
Instead of busting a company's chops about how or what, why don't we try saying "Wow! Thank you, Huntington."
Back off, Ben!

For many people Memorial Day is all about opening the swimming pool, picnics, golf and long weekends. I hope you take a moment this Memorial Day and appreciate all that you have because someone else was willing to give all that he had.
