TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Residents of an east Toledo neighborhood that's seen a lot of fires in recent weeks say they won't sleep well until the arsonist is caught.
Indeed, authorities say fires have been set at several vacant homes near Oak and Woodville.
Whoever set Wednesday afternoon's fire didn't need the cover of night. By the time firefighters and police arrived, they were gone.
Heavy flames quickly engulfed the home as dozens of firefighters rushed to put it out. Tito Colmenero lives two doors away from the house and says it's at least the third vacant house fire in recent days.
Although so far all the homes have been vacant, people are still getting hurt. Chief Mike Wolever says one of his men was injured in Wednesday's fire. "These are hot days; it takes a toll on everybody and it's got to stop."
Neighbors say the house next door to the one that caught fire Wednesday was actually being prepped for a new tenant to move in. They were getting ready to do some plumbing work inside.
