MILLBURY, OH (WTOL) - A man from Millbury has died from what some believe are complications from injuries he suffered during the tornadoes that struck northwest Ohio in June.
Irwin Welling, 97, died Thursday at Toledo Hospital.
Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer says the death has not yet been officially confirmed as tornado related, but he believes Welling died from complications sustained during the tornadoes.
Welling and his wife were in their Moline-Martin Road home when the tornado touched down. Both were rescued from rubble that was their home.
Welling was a farmer in Millbury and served in the Army Air Corp and was a POW for 11 months during WWII.
He is survived by his wife Alberna "Bernie" Wilkins and three children.
