TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Some auto workers got to see the new Chevy Cruze Wednesday at Toledo Powertrain.
In fact, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur drove the Cruze into the GM Toledo Transmission plant to celebrate the introduction of the long-awaited compact car.
The car will be assembled in Lordstown, OH with the front-wheel drive, six-speed transmissions made at GM's Toledo facility.
Expected in dealer showrooms next month, the Cruze will sell for $17,000 to $22,000 and gets 40 miles per gallon on the highway.
The plant manager says 1400 people are working at the Toledo facility and that 700 employees who have been laid off in recent years have been called back.
Right now, the plant is making 450 transmissions a day. That number is expected to increase to 2200 a day in January.
