MONROE, MI (WTOL) - Olivya Broadie, an 8-year-old author from Michigan, inspired fifth grade students at Jefferson 5th/6th Elementary School Wednesday.
Around 60 students sat quietly as the third-grader read them the book she wrote about the importance of being yourself.
Olivya authored "Beauty Became Queen" when she was seven and since then has raised money for kids who need glasses.
Her journey began when she learned a classmate could not read because he did not have glasses.
As a result, she now raises money for children who needed glasses through her Nickles for Tickles nonprofit organization.
Olivya's mother Erika Broadie says she is proud to see her daughter inspire others.
In fact, the students at Jefferson 5th/6th Elementary hedl a bake sale which raised almost $200 for Olivya's organization.
Additionally, Olivya has personally raised more than $500 and doctors have also donated $6,000 worth of eye exams for children who need glasses.
Olivya will sign copies of her book at the Toledo Borders from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8.
