TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - The owner of Toledo's Raceway Park could ask the Ohio Racing Commission to relocate the racetrack to the Youngstown area.
Jerry Chabler, a member of the commission, says he's expecting Penn National Gaming to approach the panel next week, seeking a transfer for Raceway Park operations.
Chabler says the company may ask to relocate the track based on the fact it's building Hollywood Casino Toledo, which is scheduled to open early 2012.
State Rep. Matt Szollosi says he's urging Penn National to stay put and believes a casino and racetrack could coexist in Toledo.
Toledo City Council's Lindsay Webb raised concerns about Raceway Park's future during a committee hearing in October of 2009, before the statewide vote on casino gambling.
At the time a company spokesman said "we want to continue our successful operations at Raceway Park whether we are successful on Issue 3 or not."
The company will announce if it will make a transfer request Thursday.
