TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - More than a dozen folks say they have been waiting for months to get their musical instruments back from Richard's Music, after taking them there to be repaired.
For example, Amy Muller from Perrysburg says she took a hand-made antique clarinet to Richard's Music in June for routine cleaning and pad replacement. She says Richard's kept the family heirloom for 8 months and just gave her the run around.
"It was always us calling them, hounding them.'Where is it, when will we get it back?'" Muller said.
Muller says she even called the Sylvania Township Police Department and had an officer go with her to the store.
The move prompted Richard's to finally return Muller's clarinet, but she says she still had to pay $130. "I still don't know what they did do to it, I can't see much of a change," she said.
Kenneth Sims left his daughter's clarinet with Richard's music for a repair he says Richard's told him would take 2 weeks. 6 months later, Sims says he is still waiting. At this point, he says it doesn't even matter if the clarinet is repaired. Sims just wants it back.
"They just won't cooperate, they won't respond, they won't call and give you updates," Sims said. "Just give it back, and let us take it somewhere else."
WTOL 11's phone calls to Richard's music went unanswered, so consumer investigator Matt Wright went to the store to find out why it's taking so long for customers to get their instruments back.
He got the same treatment customers say they're getting. The manager refused to answer any questions.
Richard's music has an "F" rating with the better business bureau, and the Ohio attorney general's office sent WTOL 11 a list of three complaints it's received about Richard's since august.
If you're dealing with a company that's "failing to deliver:"
-contact the company in writing, providing a deadline for response
-save any documentation from the transaction
-if you're still not getting anywhere, file a complaint with the Ohio attorney general's office.
