The Toledo Public Schools and the teachers union have found a way to preserve the $10.8 million in federal grant money.
The power struggle was resolved because TPS backed down. The union held the money hostage, the superintendent capitulated.
This does not bode well for a district swimming in $37 million of red ink and with the current labor contracts expiring on June 30.
What message do you think the union received in this recent tiff over the federal grant? Facing the issues of seniority, wages, benefits, health insurance and performance- based compensation, I'm betting this union found out all it needs to know about the resolve of TPS to effect change.
