LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (WTOL) - It was a new beginning Sunday afternoon in Lake Township.
The township's new administration building was dedicated exactly one year after the old one was destroyed by a tornado.
Outside is a tornado monument, listing the names of the seven people in Wood County killed by the twister.
Among those admiring the memorial was Cindy Kranz, whose husband Ted was killed by the tornado.
"It was nice to see that the community came together and had this wonderful idea to have this memory of all the people that passed away that horrible night," says Kranz.
Near the entrance to the building are seven pillars, each one a tribute to the victims.
During the dedication ceremony, roses were placed on the pillars, white doves were released and a bagpipe player played 'Amazing Grace.'
"The community of Lake Township has survived and prevailed after a challenging and turbulent year," according to Township Trustee Melanie Bowen.
The stepfather of victim Bailey Bowen came to the ceremony with an eerie picture snapped the day after the deadly twister.
Mike Granata says it shows a cloud in the sky shaped like an angel.
"I think it's a sign for every person who has gone through this horrible situation. You've got to find some solace in something," says Granata.
The new building is larger. Police, fire services and township operations are once again under the same roof.
The new building opens Monday morning.
