(AP) - David Price allowed only one hit in his first start against his former team as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0 yesterday to avoid a three-game sweep. Ben Zobrist reached on a throwing error by shortstop Eugenio Suarez scored on Guyer's hit. Price then retired his final 23 batters to finish an eight-inning complete game.

DETROIT (AP) - A judge has dismissed rape charges against former Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed. The judge says a woman's testimony wasn't credible and that prosecutors failed to show that force or coercion took place. Reed appeared in 27 games for Detroit before being sent to his current assignment with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Mike Fiers is making an impression filling in for the injured Matt Garza in the Milwaukee Brewers' starting rotation. Fiers is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three starts since being called up from the minors two weeks ago. Garza is on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his rib cage. Fiers has 25 strikeouts and three walks in that span for the NL Central leaders.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Tamika Catchings had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Indiana Fever to a 78-73 win over the Washington Mystics last night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Catchings endured a lengthy scoring drought from midway through the first quarter to midway through the third. But she scored 18 points in the second half and had several clutch baskets down the stretch.
