SOUTH TOLEDO (WTOL) - Central Catholic High School and Lourdes College joined forces earlier today to break ground on a new baseball complex at the Catholic Youth Organization fields on Holland Sylvania in South Toledo.
The state-of-the-art field will be home to Central Catholic's baseball team and the baseball and softball programs at Lourdes College.
The complex will have high tech lighting, a press box, batting cages and bleacher seating for more than 400 fans.
Head coaches for both teams believe the new complex will give them a competitive and recruiting advantage over other Midwest teams.
The idea came from Central Catholic High School alum Cleves Delp who played baseball for the Irish in the 1980s.
"When you have an opportunity to do something that's never been done before, you either decide you're going to step up to the plate and get her done so to speak, or you back her down," Delp said.
