TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - A fire situation is growing in east Toledo Thursday morning.
A vacant house fire on the 600 block of Forsythe that's being called suspicious spread to neighboring homes on each side. The initial call came in just after 7 a.m. A man and his pregnant girlfriend say they awoke to the heavy smoke but were able to escape.
Additionally, a house down the street also caught fire. The fire chief does not believe it was from flying embers. They are investigating.
Arson investigators worked the scene by taking photos of all people standing around in the area.
At least 7 houses have caught fire in the past two days in this neighborhood. This is all happening near Navarre and E. Broadway. All of the fires are within blocks of each other and are being called suspicious.
There was an earlier call to a vacant house fire in east Toledo Thursday morning. It came in around 6 a.m. for a house in the 800 block of Willow. Fire dispatchers say it began in the garage. This was directly across the street from a massive fire at a vacant apartment building on Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Santiago says at least one of the buildings was tampered with prior to the arson. He believes the purpose was to injure firefighters.
