TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – The Westgate area of Toledo will soon be Ohio's pilot location for a major energy-efficient initiative.
Westgate residents will be given a $20 full home energy audit in order to look for opportunities for the households to save money. The audit will involve investigating better insulation and air leak sealing.
"Their home is not insulated properly, so they're wasting a lot of the energy, so the energy audit will surely be able to tell that." said Tom Waniewski from Columbia Gas.
Columbia Gas, Huntington Bank and the Port Authority announced today that about 1,500 Columbia Gas customers in west Toledo will qualify for the audit.
After the audit, they will receive the recommended upgrades at a 90% discount.
"After this work's applied, the average home is saving about $300 on an annual basis, so it's almost an immediate turnaround and an immediate payback." explained Chris Kozak from Columbia Gas.
The residents will also receive a free programmable thermostat and energy efficient showerhead.
