KANSAS, OH (WTOL) - Lakota Local Schools administrators said a parent's actions "border on assault" when that parent allegedly confronted a Lakota school bus driver last week. The bus driver now has a protection order against that parent.
According to reports from the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office, Lakota Schools Superintendent Rebecca Heimlich contacted authorities after parent Dawn Quinlin "made threats via phone conversation to Sherry Sprow (H.S. Principal)." The report states Quinlin "threatened to do bodily harm to Sprow and or the bus driver that drops her children off in Bradner."
Dawn Quinlin denied allegations Tuesday, but did express frustration with the school district. She said it started when her 13-year-old daughter got on the school bus with a balloon last week.
"My daughter had gotten on the bus, she had a balloon on the bus, and the bus driver had grabbed her," said Quinlin Tuesday. "They wasn't aware that they were allowed on the bus with balloons, so she grabbed her, took the balloon."
Quinlin said she contact the school district after learning her children had been suspended from bus service for five days. When she still had questions about what happened on the bus, she took her concerns directly to the bus driver.
"I went out to the bus driver, asked her what happened, she told me nothing. And I said more or less, you're calling my kid a liar. I was standing at the end of my driveway, she had slammed the doors in me, and started taking off. I wasn't on the bus, I never stepped foot on the bus, I never threatened her, anything," said Quinlin.
However, Heimlich said Quinlin was threatening.
"When a parent's actions border on assault against a school bus driver, I must step in and take action for the remaining students who were on that bus at that time and for the driver," said Heimlich in a written statement to WTOL 11.
The Lakota Schools bus driver filed a protection order against Quinlin in Sandusky County. In the document, the bus driver said Quinlin yelled profanities, holding up her bus for 10 minutes.
The Wood County Sheriff's Office was called to Quinlin's Bradner address to keep the peace following the incident. Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said charges are not likely.
