WTOL Editorial: Flying Horse Farms offers seriously ill children a chance to be kids

Posted: Updated:

At any given time, there are about 16,000 children in Ohio with serious medical illnesses.

Being seriously ill, and a kid, can make it hard to fit in. Well now there is a place they can go, and for a little while, just be kids.

It's called Flying Horse Farms and it is located between Toledo and Columbus. It has 200 acres of rolling hills where the kids can play, explore, fish and have fun.

The cost of the camp: free. Eight Ohio children's hospitals provide medical services and support for kids ages 8 to 15.

The camp is staffed primarily by volunteers including the physicians and medical support people.

Flying Horse Farms is totally funded by donations.

If you want to see what the camp is like, or if you are willing to help in any way, just follow the link we've provided on wtol.com.

For Ohio's seriously ill children, flying horse farms is a chance to exchange needles and iv's for campfires, and marshmallows, and friends who really understand how precious laughter can be.
