WOOD COUNTY, OH (WTOL) – Over two weeks have passed since the elections, but two Wood County races are still too close to call.
The race for Haskins Council was decided by two votes, and the Bowling Green City Council spot was decided by twelve.
These margins were small enough to trigger an automatic recount.
Less than half of one percent separated council races in Bowling Green and Haskins after absentee and provisional ballots were factored in.
In Haskins, Nancy Perry has a two vote lead over Michael Gonzalez. In Bowling Green's 4th Ward, Greg Robinette has a 12 vote lead over Sandy Rowland.
The Bowling Green candidates say that they both fought hard, waging a grassroots door to door campaign.
It is the first contested race in the ward in 8 years.
The recount will most likely happen Tuesday, and elections officials will go through some of the votes by hand. They predict it is unlikely that the results will change.
In Haskins, Rowland says she campaigned knowing that only 5 votes could make the difference:
"That's the way I campaigned. Do it well, do it today, do the best you can do today because you may win or lose by five votes. And it was six."
