NORTH TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – A makeshift memorial marks the spot where less than a week ago Veronica Serrano and her 14 year old son Timothy Blair were murdered. Family members came down to gather personal belongings from the home when they realized it had been broken into.
Family members told WTOL that the front door to the home had been kicked in and everything taken. Police say that Serrano and her son were gunned down late Friday night by 27 year old Daurin Patton. Tina Serrano, the victim's sister said Patton had robbed her nephew of four dollars earlier that day and then came back later with a gun.
Patton used a rifle to kill Serrano and her son police say. Serrano died at the hospital and her son died at the house, the victim's family says Patton lived in the neighborhood.
The victim's family says they want the toughest penalty possible. Patton appeared in court earlier this week and is in jail on $2 million bond.
Gilbert Serrano, the victim's brother said his family will be at every trial and are going to ask for the death penalty. He also said he would like to thank the police for catching his sister's killer.
A grand jury is expected to get the case soon to decide if there is enough evidence against Patton.
