Oregon Police on the lookout for storage unit thieves

Posted: Updated:

OREGON, OH (WTOL) –Thieves have broken into storage units four separate times recently, hitting Erie Shores Storage and Oakdale Self Storage in the city of Oregon.

Since Thanksgiving, Oakdale Self Storage experienced three separate instances of thieves breaking into units. That is 44 units total, which is nearly one-fourth of their entire units.

Since Erie Shores Storage and Oakdale Self Storage are fairly close to each other, the suspects only had to cut through barbed wire fences to get inside. Then they cut off locks or even used crowbars to pry into things like RVs.

Oakdale Self Storage representatives said they have already lost one customer because of the incidents, and they hope it will not happen again.

"Total shock. Total shock. And I've had to deal with that total shock three times since Thanksgiving and it's not a pleasant feeling," said Larry Begel, manager of Oakdale Self Storage.

The businesses are working with the Oregon Police Department. Police cars have started to frequent the area more often, in hopes of catching the criminals.
