Former Woodville Mall tenants speak out

Posted: Updated:

OREGON, OH (WTOL) - It's a new beginning for some businesses forced to close when the Woodville Mall was shut down by court order on December 16.

At least three businesses are relocating to the Great Eastern Shopping Center.

"Great Eastern has been great, Great Eastern has stepped up," says Robin Heath with the Amish Country Store.

While there's a focus on keeping a positive attitude for the future, the sting is still very fresh about being forced to close during the home stretch of the holiday shopping season.

"The sales weren't there. The mall vendors were depending on the Christmas season, and you can't blame the local government, they had to do what they had to do."

The School Matters uniform clothing store is in the process of relocating to the shopping center along Woodville Mall, as well as Hobby Stop West.

"We've had three days to get things moved, we're 99 percent in with all the merchandise. We're hoping to get operating here in a few weeks."

The mall was shut down due to several public safety hazards. A permanent injunction hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Wood County Common Pleas Court.
