MAUMEE, OH (WTOL) – The City of Maumee is undertaking a project that aims to save energy, water and money.
The project will be executed in three phases; first the city will combine systems at the Municipal Building, the Maumee Indoor Theatre and the Police and Fire Departments.
Second, the city will purchase electrical equipment for the buildings, which are currently leased. Finally, the city hopes to install new water meters which can be measured remotely, allowing the city to detect leaks earlier. Currently, meters are read every three months, but the new meters will be read every month.
"It'd be good for everybody," said Director of Public Service Joe Camp. "Actually it'll be good for not only the residents, but also the consumers in the city. It just brings something, an added value to the entire community that we're trying to be proactive."
The city is working with a consultant to put an official plan together, and hopes to begin the project this summer.
