Rossford city council approves the creation of an entertainment zone

ROSSFORD, OH (WTOL) - It's 200 acres of vacant land sitting in the Crossroads area of Rossford. But if one developer has his way, the whole area will become an entertainment zone.

"It's another piece to a puzzle of putting this property together and making it that much more attractive," said developer Jerry Miller.

Attractive to bars, restaurants and other development.

The zone has just been approved by the Rossford City Council.

"The big problem that we have is we're trying to make an impact in bringing in retail and points of destination. Retailers to come into the area. But a lot of them require liquor licenses," according to Councilman Mike Scott.

The new entertainment zone would allow for a state-issued liquor license for every 5 acres.

"The ability of the entertainment zone to offer liquor permits, still done through the state, opens up additional liquor licenses and permits from the state level," said Mr. Miller.

He says a new restaurant is planned for a strip shopping center.

An existing kids party business called 'Hero's' plans an expansion to include a paintball course.

Development in the Crossroads has been stalled because of the sour economy, which Miller says is on the upswing.

The time is right for expansion.

"On the other hand, I think we are well prepared, well-suited and got all the tools in place so when it does take off, we'll take advantage of it," said Mr. Miller.

And he'll get help from Rossford. In addition to forming a convention and visitors bureau, the city has contacted a firm to market the area.
