TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – A south Toledo man died tragically Monday night after being struck by a minivan near the intersection of South Ave. and Maumee.
At around 6:30, Brandy Reynolds looked out her window to see a man stumbling across the road:
"And the man looked like he was drunk crossing the street and out of nowhere a minivan came out and hit him and she had a green light and he flew over the van."
Police say that the driver is not at fault. There was no indication of speeding or reckless driving, and the traffic light was green at the time.
"He crossed, not in a crosswalk and with the clothing he had on, she wouldn't have been able to see him until it was too late." said officer Jim Schlievert, and Accident Reconstructionist for the Toledo Police Department.
Police say another neighbor had called 911 and reported a man walking up and down the street severely intoxicated. While an officer was talking to the caller about the report, they heard the man get hit.
"I heard a real loud bang and I turned around and seen him, he was like sliding up over top of the van from the impact and hit the ground." explained George Price.
Price says he won't be able to forget this any time soon:
"When you see something like that, how do you process it? It makes me value life more, I will tell you that. Because it was snuffed out real fast. You know, sad, it really is."
At this time, police have not released the victim's name. They are saying that the man was from the neighborhood, and likely in his 50's.
