
TPS Foundation Announces 12th Round of Grants, New Named Scholarships
Toledo, Ohio, February 6, 2012…The Toledo Public Schools Foundation, established in 1999 to enhance teaching and learning in the leading urban school district in Ohio, expects to award up to $131,263.13 in its 12th round of grants this spring, announced Susan Zurawski, executive director of the Toledo Public
Schools Foundation.
"This year, we have 11 new named scholarships that have been established by alumni, businesses, corporations, community organizations, and friends of the district for our students," said Ms. Zurawski.
New Named Scholarships
Joyce Lee Awls Memorial Scholarship - $500
The scholarship is for a senior interested in pursuing a career in the culinary arts field or hospitality industry,
and is dedicated to the memory of Joyce Lee Awls. Joyce was the mother of Terry (Chris) Awls and
daughter, Sherry White. She passed away April 21, 2011. She attended Lincoln, Robinson Junior High,
Scott and Libbey High Schools.
Dr. Sean C. Crowley Medical Scholarship for a Jesup Wakeman Scott High School African-American Male - $1,000
The Fund supports an award to a Jesup Wakeman Scott High School African-American male senior who is
interested in pursuing a career in Medicine. The scholarship is named after Dr. Sean C. Crowley, second-year
resident, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
Kevin Dalton/Toledo Federation of Teachers Scholarship - $1,500
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a Toledo Public School District senior who will pursue a four-year
baccalaureate degree in the field of Teaching in K-12 public schools. The scholarship has been established by
Toledo Federation of Teachers President Kevin Dalton with a two-to-one match from the Toledo Federation
of Teachers.
Dream. Believe. Achieve. Scholarship - $1,000
The scholarship has been donated anonymously for a senior who will pursue a four-year
baccalaureate degree.
Linda Brown Ewing Broadcast Journalism Scholarship for a Minority Woodward High School Senior - $1,000
The scholarship is named after Linda Brown Ewing, 1967 graduate of Woodward High School, who started
her career as a news reporter for WTOL-TV Toledo Eleven. Ms. Ewing is currently Senior Vice President,
Community Affairs at Fifth Third Bank.
Fifth Third Bank College Scholarships for TPS Minorities - 2 @ $1,000
The Fund supports scholarship awards for minority seniors who will pursue careers in Business or Finance.
Health Care REIT, Inc., Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior with solid academic performance and aspirations to a career in Health Care, Finance, or Real Estate.
Medical Mutual of Ohio Scholarship in Honor of President & CEO Rick Chiricosta - $1,000
The scholarship is named in honor of current President & CEO of Medical Mutual of Ohio,
Mr. Rick Chiricosta, for a senior interested in pursuing a career in Health Care, Health and Wellness,
Business, or Finance.
NSG Group - Glass Technology Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports an award to a senior interested in pursuing a career in sustainable Manufacturing.
The NSG Group is one of the world's leading manufacturers of glass and glazing systems for the architectural,
automotive, and technical markets, which include Pilkington-brand products.
Netech Technology Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in Technology.
Order of Omega Scholarship for Leadership, Service, and Academic Advancement - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior planning to attend The University of Toledo who plans to join a Greek letter organization in college, and has experience in the areas of leadership and service.

Toledo Public Schools teachers, students, schools, and organizations are invited to apply online at www.tpsfoundation.org <http://www.tpsfoundation.org> for funds by the deadline of 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Awards will be announced in the spring at Salute to Scholars event. Funding of selected projects will be released for use at the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
