SOUTH TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Columbia Gas announced a $200 million long-term investment in south Toledo Thursday. Work on the project is already underway at one of seven sites across the city getting natural gas line upgrades.
Nearly 50 miles of bare steel gas lines are going to be replaced with modern plastic pipes. Columbia Gas officials said this will help increase gas pressure and decrease the chance of any safety hazards.
Upgrades will total more than $20 million in investments and should improve service to more than 6,000 customers.
Spokesman Chris Kozak said these upgrades will have a lasting impact on a customer.
"It means he's gonna have reliable service. It means he's gonna have safe service. It means he's going to, when he wants to take a shower in the morning, when he wants to cook a meal, when he wants to wake up to a warm home - it's gonna be there. Not only today, tomorrow, but for the next 70 years," said Kozak.
Columbia Gas estimates their massive project to kick off investments up to $200 million over the next 25 years.
