TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Demolition crews started the process of knocking down the old Beverly Elementary School building in south Toledo on Thursday after a two-month delay.
Neighbors said the site of the former school had been an eyesore and a site for criminal activity.
With more than 30 schools left to knock down, Toledo Public School Board President Lisa Sobecki said a two-month delay is common for demolition because of having to disconnect utilities and different companies taking different parts of the projects.
"People see dates that we have put in place, but those are benchmarks and goals for us to be able to get to. Sometimes we can reach them and sometimes we have to add for extended periods of time," said Sobecki.
Sobecki said Beverly's demolition should be completed in about six to eight weeks.
