PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (WTOL) - They called it "College Goal Sunday" at Owens Community College.
High school and college students came to get tips on how to receive financial aid.
Scott McNay is overwhelmed by the high cost of tuition.
He's now putting three kids through college.
His advice?
"Parents. Get out there and get the kids looking too. Because it's almost a full time job to find the money to do it without being financially overwhelmed," said Mr. McNay.
The best way to start out is to fill out a FAFSA form.
That's the "Free Application For Federal Student Aid."
Owens officials say the biggest roadblock students encounter when exploring their income eligibility for financial aid is the financial aid form itself.
"I wouldn't say it's a common mistake. But a lot of times students get confused when students fill out tax information. So that's why it's good for them to come here and help guide them through those points," said Owens Financial Aide Administrator Stephanie Goller.
After that, you take the FAFSA information and use it as a guideline for receiving aid from various federal and state programs.
"There's resources out there that can help you make going to college without having to pay for the whole education itself," said Ryan McNay, Scott's son.
You can easily find the form on line at WWW.FAFSA.GOV.
