TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Thursday night, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur received the endorsement of the Lucas County Democratic Party, and she says it's a real momentum builder.
"It felt good. Like family. It is family. I know they went out of their way to help. I shall not forget it" says Kaptur.
The endorsement was unanimous. The party chose her over Cleveland Congressman Dennis Kucinich and businessman Graham Veysey.
"She has always been here for the constituents of Northwest Ohio and we feel she is the most qualified person to continue to represent the constituency of Northwest Ohio" says Party Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler.
"Lucas County and Northwest Ohio and the entire new district will benefit from Kaptur's experience, dedication and leadership." adds Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez.
Kaptur will be participating in several debates between now and the March 6th primary, including one next Monday on WTOL.
Receiving the hometown endorsement is very humbling.
"I am just so grateful to them. It made my day. It lifted me up. I was just thrilled" says Kaptur.
The Congresswoman now has the endorsement of the Lorain and Lucas County Democratic Parties, while Kucinich is backed by the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party.
Democrats in Erie and Ottawa Counties will not make an endorsement.
