PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (WTOL) – A survivor of last week's fatal crash in Perrysburg Township spoke with WTOL's Matt Wright on Tuesday about the tragic loss of his fiancé.
Christian Kellerbauer and Oliva Waller planned to marry last week on what would have been her 19th birthday.
Instead, the two were involved in an accident with a snow plow which was stopped in the narrow median at the intersection of Route 25 and Reitz Road. The plow then pulled out in front of Kellerbauer's truck.
"Waking up and seeing her hunched over in the car and just trying to wake her up and screaming her name and just getting no response. Knowing I'm never gonna see her again. It just kills me inside." explained Kellerbauer, who has already had surgery on his leg, and is awaiting another.
Kellerbauer is now confined to his family's home, as they try to find the money to make their house more accommodating.
Kellerbauer says the pain is both physical and emotional:
"I find myself crying a lot throughout the day just out of nowhere. I can't sleep right because whenever I got to sleep I have dreams of the accident."
The Highway Patrol is still waiting for the results of a crash reconstruction, and will then hand over the case to prosecutors, who will decide whether to present the case to a grand jury.
"Any way you look at it someone died, and there are ramifications for operating a motor vehicle." explains Lt. Dean Laubacher of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A grand jury would determine possible felony charges against the plow driver, and misdemeanor citations would come later.
For now, Christian and his family are still looking for answers.
