MAUMEE, OH (WTOL) – The Maumee Police Department has gone nearly paperless. Police have been working on transitioning to a new record management system for nearly a year and now the department is 95 percent paperless.
Back in April, the software company the department has used since 1987 came out with a new, upgraded record management system. The MPD decided to try it.
Officers now file their reports and traffic tickets on their computers. They can do this at the police station or even in their cars.
The chief said this has made their records more accurate, professional looking, and efficient.
"If it's the case of an arrest or something they need to see those reports right away. They have nearly instant access to them. It's just a more efficient and effective way of doing crime reports and traffic crash reports," explained Chief Robert Zink of the MPD.
Zink also said this new system could some day be accessible to the public.
