TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Roughly half of the 1,200 employees who'll be working at Hollywood Casino Toledo when it opens during the week of May 28 have to apply for a casino gaming employee license through the Ohio Casino Control Commission.
On Wednesday and Thursday, commission staffers were in town to accept applications from an estimated 300 people who have been offered a job at the casino.
"It's an opportunity I've been looking forward to since the moment I knew Hollywood was coming. I've always wanted to be a table games dealer. Finally, I'm going to be dealing craps and I'm excited about it." says Joe Pokzrywa.
Besides dealers, any workers who has anything to do with the gaming operations will have to be cleared by the commission.
That includes being finger-printed by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and having a criminal background check done on them.
Theresa Turner is leaving behind a part-time school bus driver job to work as a blackjack dealer at the casino:
"This is such a fabulous opportunity to be a blackjack dealer at the casino. I'm so excited about it."
The future casino employees believe they've been dealt a promising career.
"The casino is going to bring a lot of business to the Toledo area. It's going to benefit this community." says Turner.
"It's going to be one of the best employers in the area, if not the best." says Pokzrywa.
