TOLEDO, OH (WTOL EDITORIAL) - Although the performance for most urban public school systems is dismal, there are some bright spots. At TPS, the Toledo Early College High School is just such an exception. This program achieved superior results by raising the bar for students, teachers and administrators. This is a place where students and parents achieve more by doing more. The Toledo Early College program provides evidence that when kids who really want to learn are given the opportunity to do so, many embrace the challenge.
The Toledo Early College High School curriculum is designed to accelerate students into college courses at the University of Toledo. Students can earn up to 60 college credits during the four-year high school experience. Textbooks are provided at no cost to students. The Toledo Early College Program is not going to solve the urban public school dilemma, but it is a lifeline for students truly seeking a chance at the benefits of a better education.
