A Cleveland firefighter at the heart of an investigation is calling it quits.
Timothy Debarr turned in a request for retirement this week. He's among those accused of abusing "your" tax dollars.
Debarr is among the firefighters who was exposed. He claimed to have traded shifts with others, yet rarely or never worked for anyone. City Hall says Debarr got full pay and benefits yet he only worked about half the time.
The Safety Director says Debarr owes other firefighters 4,700 hours worth of work.
City Hall is calling it a resignation since he doesn't have enough time on the force to retire.
He only has 18 years and 1 month.
His work history and others like it triggered a much larger probe. The city now says a couple of hundred firefighters are abusing sick time and other work rules.
A criminal investigation is underway as well.
Meantime, DeBarr can't cash in as he leaves the force -- at least not yet. DeBarr owes so many hours to others for working for him, the city has frozen any comp time vacation time and sick time he's built up until the investigation ends.
