TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - There's new hope for state funding being restored towards the McCord Road underpass project.
Lucas County Engineer Keith Earley will make his pitch to ODOT during a meeting in Columbus on April 17, to state the case for $13.3 million which was delayed for the project being pushed back up to allow construction to begin in 2014.
Earley says his presentation will focus on the safety improvements and financial impacts for diverting traffic along McCord under the Norfolk-Southern rail line:
"We determined a 3 year pay back on this $37 million project. You pay for these projects one way or another. Wasted gas, wasted time, greenhouse gases, crashes, one way or another you're going to pay."
Earley says he's competing with 9 other projects to try to restore funding, and he should know in May if his efforts were successful. If not, he's hoping a $10 million dollar federal TIGER grant application will help fill in that funding gap, but that's considered a long shot.
