TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – The state of Ohio is set to receive a $75 million "relocation fee" from Penn National once Raceway Park operations are moved to Dayton, and Councilwoman Lindsay Webb says part of that money should be used for redevelopment efforts.
Details included in House Bill 386 spell out a $3 million allotment for each community affected by the relocation of harness racing operations in Ohio.
However, a resolution crafted by Webb that will go before council for approval calls on the governor and the general assembly to provide more of those funds for future redevelopment of the Raceway Park site.
Miss Cue Sports Café manager Dan Martin does not have a positive feeling about the site:
"I'm not going to hold my breath for any new development in this area. It'd be nice to have something going on to bring a little more life to the area but I don't foresee it in the near future."
A spokesperson for Penn National says that while nothing has been announced about whether or not this will be the final season at Raceway Park, the company has until June 30 to file a relocation application.
