TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - A new health ranking report places Lucas County at 72 out 88 Ohio counties for most healthy counties in the state.
That report from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation points to a 32 percent adult obesity rate in Lucas County, along with a 23 percent adult smoking rate, and 28 percent of adults deemed to be physically inactive.
Toledo Mayor Mike Bell says this should serve as a collective wake-up call for the community to do more to get active.
He encourages people to use the city parks, the Metroparks and other facilities in the area. He says the city will try to do its part to promote healthy living:
"This summer we're talking about using Levis Square to do some activities that can be done in a group, such as ballroom dancing, things like that. We're going to do our part as a city, try to excite people about staying in shape and being active."
Bell says he wakes up every day thinking about what he can do to get his heart pumping and he hopes more people will use that mindset to improve their personal health.
