TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - While the official opening date has yet to be approved by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, a Penn National Spokesman says May 29 is the target date to open Hollywood Casino Toledo.
Local law enforcement and business operators also have that date circled in preparation of the anticipated increased traffic volumes.
"We're already in the process of planning. Chief Diggs and his staff are working with Penn National, gone over a strategic plan on how to deal with the grand opening. Of course we're concerned about the traffic flow coming off the expressway and down Miami Street as well. We're looking into that," says Toledo Deputy Mayor Shirley Green.
At least for the first few weeks after opening, people could expect to see officers working traffic duty near the casino, something TPD has planned for in terms of expected overtime costs.
"The department looks at events that are going to occur and plan out their overtime budget accordingly." said Green.
Rossford Police are also planning to deal with increased traffic through the city, and local businesses such as the Double Down consignment shop are hoping casino traffic will help drive up their bottom line.
"I think it's great, getting people down here into the Rossford area," says Ron Kester.
An official opening date could be approved next week by the casino commission.
