HOLLAND, OH (WTOL) - Lucas County Engineer Keith Earley will be making his pitch to ODOT On Tuesday, aimed at restoring $13 million in funding for the McCord Road underpass project.
He'll be joined by officials from TMACOG, Village of Holland and Springfield Township for the meeting in Columbus.
The $37 million project suffered a recent setback when ODOT delayed funding until 2028, but Earley is confident construction can still start in 2014 to build an underpass along McCord at the Norfolk-Southern rail line.
While a total of 10 projects are being considered, Earley says a cost analysis shows a 6-to-1 benefit to cost ratio, through savings connected with reduced idling time and safety improvements:
"We're going to try to convince him we need to do it sooner than 15-20 years from now. The other money is available now, it won't be later and the cost could double. We've already had one tragic accident there."
Earley is expecting to know next month if ODOT restores funding to the original schedule.
