TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - All indications show that Toledoans will be able to hit the casino in the Glass City soon. With the May 29 target date approaching quickly, casino officials said they are still in the market for more employees.
Casino executives said they have shattered their goal of hiring 90 percent of employees locally, but they still have plenty of room for additional hard workers.
"We've put together a fantastic group of team members from the Toledo area that are passionate about the casino business and excited about entertaining and serving our guests when we open the doors in just a few weeks," said Richard St. Jean, Hollywood Casino general manager.
Hollywood Casino held its seventh new-hire celebration Thursday at the SeaGate Centre, where organizers whipped 150 new employees into shape and gave them the chance to learn the ropes of their new jobs.
Representatives from the casino said they have room for about 100 more employees, and are primarily looking for people interested in food and beverage. Jobs, such as sous chefs, servers and beverage models, are all up for grabs. Previous food and beverage experience is preferred, but not necessary.
"We've said from the beginning, we're more than willing to train people. We know that the hospitality industry, in general, is a bit new, especially from a casino aspect. Really, you have to have the right attitude and the right personality. We'll take care of teaching you the rest of the technical skills," said Chrystal Herndon, vice president of Human Resources at Hollywood Casino Toledo.
Herndon said this is a great opportunity for college students looking for work.
"I've actually worked with a lot of people who come in while they are in college, work part-time and then grow their career all the way into vice president in some respects. So, it's a great opportunity if you're looking for something part-time while you're still in school," said Herndon.
Applicants for Hollywood Casino Toledo food and beverage positions should meet several minimum requirements for employment:
